Chinese peacekeepers to South Sudan win UN Peace Medal of Honor

338 officers and men of the 12th Chinese peacekeeping taskforce to South Sudan were awarded with the UN Peace Medal of Honor by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) on October 7, 2014, local time. The awarding ceremony was held at the Wau Barrack.

The Chinese peacekeepers staged a professional demonstration of the military boxing, catching and grappling, and firearms assembly/disassembly skills for guests attending the ceremony.

The deputy commander of the UNMISS delivered a speech at the awarding ceremony, fully acknowledging the contributions made by the Chinese peacekeeping medical and engineer detachments in the mission.

Since arriving at the mission area in March this year, the 12th Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment has accomplished 32 construction projects, carried out over 30 emergency rescue operations and repaired damaged roads with a total length exceeding 300 kilometers. Meanwhile, the 12th Chinese peacekeeping medical detachment has received 1,829 person/times of patients, admitted 91 patients to the hospital and made 36 .surgical operations.
