The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) condemned a celebration to commemorate Incheon Landing Operation during the 1950-1953 Korean war, the official KCNA news agency reported Sunday.

The event, due on Monday, will be jointly held by South Korea and the United States.

"This is an unpardonable challenge to the Asian Games which will be held in the noble idea of peace and friendship ... and another unbearable provocation against the DPRK," the state media quoted the secretariat of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea (CPRK) as saying.

The CPRK blamed US and authorities of the Republic of Korea (ROK) for "wrecking dialogue, disturbing peace and igniting a war on the Korean Peninsula" by holding such a ceremony to mark the 64th anniversary of Incheon Landing, a turning point for US and the ROK forces in the War.

The commemoration event has clearly proven Seoul's hypocrisy behind its dialogue and confidence-building rhetoric, it added.

The CPRK also warned Seoul to think twice about the implications such anti-DPRK actions will have on the 17th Incheon Asian Games which will start in only four days, adding that the DPRK's patience has "reached the limit."

According to the ROK's Yonhap News, some 2,200 people, including war veterans, military officers, and citizens will join the commemoration and a reenactment of the operation will be carried out.

The Incheon Landing Operation, codenamed Operation Chromite, was an amphibious battle which started on Sept. 15, 1950 and led to the recapture of ROK capital Seoul for the United States and the ROK two weeks later.
