The merit-awarding celebration for the first-class merits respectively awarded to Wang Hongli and Submarine 372 was held at the auditorium of a submarine flotilla of the South China Sea Fleet of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) on the afternoon of September 2, 2014.

The awards were respectively issued by China's Central Military Commission (CMC) and the PLAN.

Admiral Wu Shengli, member of China's CMC and commander of the PLAN, read the circular orders from China's CMC and the PLAN, and awarded medals and certificates of merit citation to Wang Hongli and Submarine 372 respectively.

In a combat-readiness call-out organized by the PLAN without prior notification, Wang Hongli, commanding officer of the submarine flotilla of the PLAN, led Submarine 372 deep into the ocean on an emergency mission and completed the combat-readiness oceangoing mission after successfully handling sudden major emergencies and overcoming numerous difficulties, creating a miracle in the history of submarines in China or even in the world. He has been highly praised and honored by China's CMC Chairman Xi Jinping and other CMC leaders.

More than 1,100 people, including leaders from the organs of the PLA general headquarters/departments and the PLA troop units stationed in Sanya as well as officers and men of the PLAN, attended the celebration.
