Singaporean frigate 'RSS Intrepid' holds open day

The "RSS Intrepid" frigate of the Singaporean Navy held its open day at the wharf of a naval port in Zhanjiang, Guangdong province, on August 31, 2014.

Hundreds of Zhanjiang residents and PLA officers and men stationed in Zhanjiang boarded and toured the warship.

The "RSS Intrepid" frigate arrived in Zhanjiang on the morning of August 30, 2014 to begin its 5-day-long goodwill visit to the South China Sea Fleet of the PLAN. The South China Sea Fleet of the PLAN held a welcoming ceremony at the wharf for the visiting warship.

Captain of the "RSS Intrepid" warship called on relevant persons-in-charge of Zhanjiang city on the day of his arrival.

The visiting "RSS Intrepid" frigate, made up of 91 officers and men, plans to conclude its visit on the morning of September 3, 2014, according to sources.

The officers and men of Singaporean and Chinese navies will enhance mutual understanding and promote friendship by visiting each other's warship and holding friendly football match and deck reception during the 5-day-long visit.

Jiang Weilie, deputy commander of the Guangzhou Military Area Command (MAC) of the PLA and commander of the South China Sea Fleet of the PLAN, will also meet with Rear Admiral Lai Chung Han, chief of Singaporean Navy who flies to Zhanjiang from Singapore to join the visit, on September 1, 2014

The "RSS Intrepid" frigate is the first "Formidable" class frigate independently built by the Singaporean Navy, with a length of 114 meters, a width of 16 meters, a displacement of 3,200 tons, and a maximum navigational speed of 27 knots.

The "RSS Intrepid" warship is the largest warship, as well as the main warship among the warships of the Singaporean Navy at present.
