At the 2014 peace mission anti-terror drill between five Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states, an armored division of China's 38th army has opened itself to Chinese and foreign media in a confident display from China's military.

The sixth armored division of China's 38th army is the only military unit in the armored division open to foreign guests, inviting around 15,000 guests from more than 150 countries.

"In the past, we were always receiving visits from foreign guests, but this time during the six day drill phase, we are exchanging ideas on ammunition training. We have gained insight communicating with our fellow front-line commanders from other countries," said Liu Yuwei, Chief of Staff, 6th Armored Division of China's 38th Army.

The division is equipped with sophisticated technology unparalleled by other Chinese military units. So combat training, such as reconnaissance, can be executed faster with more precision.

"The reconnaissance has been highly improved on timing and precision under the new information technologies. In the past, we needed around 10 minutes to detect enemies under the traditional way, but now it takes only 5 seconds to do the job. We used to rely on at least two observation points to find enemies, but now only one scout car can pin point enemy distributions," said Wu Jiajian, scout, Sixth Armored Division of China's 38th Army.

During the six-day drill phase, the armored division also undertook the responsibility of ground fire reinforcement, safeguarding ammunition depot of friend forces, and protecting high ranking commanding officers and guests.

"As part of the ground force group, the armored division must collaborate well with friendly forces, otherwise, we might risk injuring them. The drill has provided us opportunities to improve our collaborative combat capabilities with them," said Wu Ming, technician, Sixth Armored Division of China's 38th Army.

Tajikistan did not send any weaponry, only military personnel. So the armored division is responsible of providing it with military hardware support, another example of the organization member states cooperating and coordinating to deal with regional security threats.
