A deck reception was held on the guided missile destroyer "Haikou" of the visiting taskforce of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) at the Naval Base San Diego of the US on the afternoon of August 11, 2014, local time.

Vice Adm. Tian Zhong, deputy commander of the Navy of the Chinese PLA, attended the deck reception.

Rear Adm. Shen Jinlong, commanding officer of the visiting Chinese taskforce, delivered a speech at the reception.

Over 40 US senior officers, local government officials and senators/congressmen in San Diego including Vice Adm. Kenneth E. Floyd, commander of the US Third Fleet, and Rear Adm. John Jolliffe, deputy commander of the US Third Fleet, as well as more than 30 representatives of local overseas Chinese and Chinese nationals were invited to the deck reception.

During the reception, the officers and men of the Chinese Navy and the US Navy conducted warm and in-depth exchanges.

In addition, the servicemen of the Chinese visiting taskforce also gave performances such as traditional Chinese lion dance and cucurbit flute (a Chinese ethnic musical instrument) performance at the reception.
