Chinese Defense Minister Chang Wanquan held talks with Fijian Minister for Defense, National Security and Immigration Joketani Cokanasiga on Monday.

Calling Fiji "a good friend" of China among the Pacific Islands countries, Chang said China would like to work with Fiji to promote bilateral ties.

The Chinese armed forces attach great importance to developing ties with the Fijian armed forces, he said, adding that China is willing to enhance strategic mutual trust and deepen cooperation so as to lift the military ties to a higher level.

Cokanasiga voiced appreciation for China long-term assistance to the Fiji.

He reiterated Fiji's firm adherence to the one-China policy.

Fiji established diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China in 1975, becoming the first South Pacific Islands country to do so.
