Will U.S. security defense deployment make Asia safe?

2012-10-31 14:11 People's Daily     Web Editor: yaolan comment

Days ago, U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said on the Korea-United States Security Consultative Meeting that they were proceeding and discussing about the deployment of the missile defense system with the South Korea.

Not long ago, the U.S. Defense Chief also said that they would put the second early-warning radar in southern Japan. The United States is also said to be planning for the same radar in Southeast Asia.

However, what any further could it be? And is security of Asia the real purpose?

Steven Hildreth, a missile-defense expert with the U.S. Congressional Research Service said that in the long run the missile defense targets China in fact, although seemingly to be against the DPRK.

This reminds us of the U.S. deployment of the anti-missile system in Europe. The United States said that its development of the antimissile system in Europe was to cope with the threat from Iran rather than the Russia. But, Russia insisted on working in the same team together with the United States, or having the United States make a commitment of its non-action to Russia in a legal form. As for the result, it is known throughout the world.

Obviously, the United States' full enthusiasm about deploying the anti-missile system in Asia is exactly the same as the "rebalancing strategy in the Asia-Pacific region". In the end, the dominance of the United States is likely to cause the opposition and division of Asia.

As Asia has currently entered a new period of cooperative development, it needs more positive energy to solve the existing problems and disputes to make a faster and steadier development pace.

The United States, as one of the most important counties in the Asia-Pacific region, should make a more significant contribution to Asia's peaceful development. This is exactly what the United States should think over carefully and try to do.

It is shameful to take such an opportunity to exaggerate the problems and conflicts, and create tensions. Those who break the overall security environment to seek for their own selfish ends will eventually be unable to protect themselves.
