Before an officer's wife ended her husband-visiting trip soon after the National Day holiday, the officers and men of a troop unit under the Tibet Military Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) specially plucked some vegetables from the vegetable field in the barracks for her to take back home.

"Please let the relatives and friends at home enjoy the green vegetables cultivated by ourselves so that they will no longer worry that we cannot enjoy fresh vegetables," said the officers and men.

According to Lang Youliang, political commissar of the Tibet Military Command, the living conditions in the military barracks on the snow-covered plateau today have been constantly improving, as evidenced by the fact that the seasonal vegetable and fresh meat self-sufficiency ratios for all the troop units of the Tibet Military Command can reach 75 and 40 percents respectively. Additionally, thanks to the development of the local logistics, the officers and men can enjoy fresh vegetables all year long.

Li Wei, director of the Logistics Department of the Tibet Military Command, told the reports that with the change of diet structure for the troop units, the incidence rates of common and frequent diseases such as plateau heart disease and rheumatoid arthritis among the officers and men stationed in Tibet are decreasing year by year.
