80 national defense education bases designated

In order to implement the National Defense Education Law (NDEL) and the Opinions on Strengthening National Defense Education under New Situation which was proposed by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the State Council and the Central Military Commission (CMC) of the People's Republic of China (PLA), and to further promote the quality level of national defense education bases and the in-depth popularization of national defense education among all the people, the National Defense Education Office announced the designation for the second batch of 80 national defense education demonstration bases on September 15, 2012, the eve of the 12th National Defense Education Day.

These demonstration bases were selected from a short list of 1,000-plus national defense education bases which had been nominated by the people's governments of provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, mainly consisting of memorial halls, former residents of national leaders, martyr memorial parks, revolutionary and historical sites, as well as those museums, science and technology museums, literature museums, national defense parks, military history museums and military training bases which are featured by the functions of national defense education.

The National Defense Education Office named the first batch of 160 national defense education demonstration bases in 2009.
