Xu Caihou, vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission, met in Beijing on May 25 with Zambian Defense Minister Geoffrey B. Mwamba, pledging to promote friendly cooperation between the two armed forces.

China appreciates the Zambian government's adherence to the one-China policy as well as its support for China on issues concerning Taiwan, Tibet and human rights, said Xu.

The country values its friendship with Zambia and is ready to work with the country on cooperation between the two nations as well as the two armed forces, he said.

Mwamba praised the remarkable achievements China has made in its economic development, noting that Zambia is willing to learn from China's experiences.

Zambia will enhance military exchanges with China, so as to lift bilateral military ties to a higher level.

Earlier Friday, Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie also held talks with Mwamba.
