Senior military official meets with German defence secretary

Senior military official Guo Boxiong on Monday met with visiting German Secretary of State for Defense Rudiger Wolf, saying China hopes to develop military ties with Germany.

Guo, vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission, said China places great importance on developing friendly and cooperative links between the armed forces of the two countries.

"We wish to make a contribution to the construction and development of the armed forces of both sides, and to comprehensive growth of bilateral relations," he said.

Noting that military-to-military ties constitute an integral part of bilateral relations, Guo said the militaries of the two countries have seen remarkable growth of their relations, as mechanisms of exchange operate smoothly and practical cooperation in specialized fields has increased.

Wolf said the German side holds a positive attitude toward expanding links between the militaries of the two countries. He expressed the readiness to advancing Germany-China military exchanges and cooperation at all levels and in all fields.
