The disease control and prevention center under the Jinan Military Area Command (MAC) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) is responsible for the national emergency epidemic prevention and treatment and the task of the PLA's "anti-NBC" medical rescues. During the six years since its establishment, the center has been commended for 16 times by the general headquarters/departments and the Jinan MAC of the PLA and honored with 16 prizes of the Military Scientific and Technological Progress Award, 8 national invention patents, and one third-class collective merit citation.

In recent years, the center has successfully fulfilled many tasks of scientific prevention and handling of major acute epidemic diseases:

In early 2008, four cases of C-type epidemic meningitis disease broke out at a college. The center took timely measures of vaccination, separation and disinfection to successfully control the epidemic situation.

In May 2009, in fighting against "influenza virus A subtype H1N1" broke out, the center promptly activated the emergency-responding pre-plan for public health incidents.

In the sailing test event of Beijing Olympic Games in Qingdao, a coach from the South Africa's sailing team had a potential attack of "Lyme disease", which aroused a panic among the athletes. The center's prompt reaction reversed the risky situation.

In order to provide effective medicines for treating the injuries caused during the military trainings, Jia Enli, director of the drug and apparatus supply office, led experts to tackle the subject of "treating aseptic femoral head necrosis" day and night, and successfully accomplished the independent development and production of "bone-regeneration capsules". This accomplishment won the second prize of the Military Medical Achievement Award and a national patent, while the prescription is used throughout the PLA.
