PLA health system covers grassroot level

On February 10, 2012, it is learned from the just-concluded Health Authority Leaders' Symposium of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) that the health system of the PLA will list health service construction at grassroots level as a strategic and fundamental project of the comprehensive construction of the modern logistics so as to constantly improve the quality level of medical service support.

According to the person in charge of the health division of the PLA General Logistics Department (GLD), in 2012, the GLD will quicken the pace of medical equipment upgrading, equip plateau troops with oxygen producing and supply facilities and fit out hospitals in remote frontier areas where life is hard with major medical equipment as a way to improve medical service support at grassroots level. In order to ensure the safety of drug use and physical checkup for PLA officers and men, great importance will be attached to the prevention and treatment of major infectious diseases, the health maintenance in military training and the provision of mental hygiene service, the monitoring network of adverse drug reactions will be improved and quality of large medical equipment will be checked.

It is learned that in 2011, the GLD equipped clinics of military agencies of troop units, leading organs and academies and grassroots hospitals of the PLA with medical and health equipment worth of 250 million yuan.

In 2011, Chinese troops stationed on the Nansha Islands, Chinese naval escort taskforce to Gulf of Aden and waters off the Somali coast and Chinese peacekeeping detachments realized remote medical consultation with medical experts on the "Peace Ark" hospital ship of the PLA.

In the same year, the medical system of the PLA sent out more than 120 teams of medical experts to provide medical service to grassroots officers and men on frontier islands and organized 25 metal service teams to provide circuiting service to grassroots troops.

Qin Yinhe, deputy director of the GLD, attended and addressed the symposium.
