Vice premier calls for unity between army, people

Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu on Friday urged authorities to do practical things for the people in a bid to solidify relations between the army, local governments and the people.

Hui made the remarks at the meeting of "double support," referring to the government and people supporting the army, as well as the army supporting the government and people, saying that last year witnessed great achievements in this regard.

Hui urged governments at all levels to give greater support to national defense and the army, and settle issues concerning the family members of demobilized soldiers and officers.

The army should actively take part in national construction and disaster relief work, and do practical things for the people's livelihood, he said.
