The Darfur peacekeeping mission area has a very security situation. Due to the poor communication, the mission area witnessed frequent occurrences of delays in handling emergencies. The 6th Chinese peacekeeping engineer contingent to Darfur mainly undertakes such tasks as constructing the Nyala Airport of Sudan and going out to seek water source and dig wells. The distance from the barracks to the task places may reach as far as 100 kilometers.

The contingent took the initiative to contact the communication department of the United Nations-African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) and set up special all-around digital shortwave radio antennas to enable communication distance increase from tens of kilometers in the past to 150 kilometers, which means the officers and men of the Chinese peacekeeping contingent can communicate wherever they perform their peacekeeping mission.

Song Guangjun, political commissar of the 6th Chinese peacekeeping engineer contingent to Darfur, told the reporters that since the beginning of the construction task, 85% of the officers and men had been working at the different places. With the free flow of information, they could keep abreast of the development of the front line, command accurately and handle various emergencies timely.
