Current Affairs Video Brief | Joining hands for a shared future: Xi Jinping's initiative brings young people from China and the United States together

On the eve of his state visit to the United States, Chinese President Xi Jinping replied to letters from young American students of ten universities who had come to China to take part in China-U.S. youth-themed exchange activities. He stressed that Chinese and American youth share one planet and shoulder the mission of our times.

The future of China‑U.S. relations lies with the youth. Over the years, President Xi Jinping has consistently cared for and advanced exchanges between Chinese and American young people.　In November 2023, in San Francisco, the United States, President Xi Jinping extended a solemn invitation: China is ready to invite 50,000 young Americans to China on exchange and study programs in the next five years. Thus began this journey of mutual outreach across the Pacific Ocean. As exchanges between Chinese and American youth continue to expand, they compete on sports fields and collaborate in scientific and technological innovation, deepening China-U.S. friendship through the power of youth. As of May 2026, more than 50,000 young Americans had visited China, hitting the target two and a half years ahead of schedule. Gatherings across mountains and seas and heart-to-heart exchanges bring Chinese and American youth closer, helping them forge genuine friendships.
