In the vast desert of Northwest China, there are woods that can sing. They are examples of the string instruments used by China's Uyghur ethnic group, with quite a long history.

The three instruments -- dutar, qanun and satar-- which can evoke different emotions and feelings, are a crucial component of Uyghur culture. They were once commonly seen along the ancient Silk Road.

Today, they are not just relics of the past, but are actively played by the Uyghur people in various contexts, including muqam performances, as well as many types of daily celebrations. All these ancient musical instruments have gained new vitality in the new era.
