Barbados Ambassador to China Hallam Henry highly commended China’s achievements in green development and energy transition, noting that China has made a remarkable leap from fossil fuels to new energy.

Henry made the remarks on global climate governance during an exclusive interview with China News Network, ahead of the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), which will be held this November in Belém, the capital of Pará in Brazil’s Amazon region.

The ambassador noted that by vigorously advancing industries such as wind, solar, and hydropower, China has fostered some of the world’s leading new energy enterprises. These experiences and accomplishments not only drive China’s own sustainable development but also offer valuable insights for other nations, including Barbados, he said.

Henry emphasized that Barbados, a small island nation in the Caribbean, relies heavily on tourism, making environmental protection vital to its economy. He reaffirmed that Barbados will continue to speak up at COP30 and other international forums, urging capable countries to shoulder greater responsibilities.

The ambassador expressed his hope for stronger global cooperation at the upcoming conference to advance the goals of the Paris Agreement and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Agenda.
