Insights | KITA Chief Rep: ‘China's role in APEC has evolved significantly’
As Gyeongju officially enters APEC time recently, eyes are on the city.
“China's role in APEC has evolved significantly,” said Park Sun Kyung, chief representative of the Korea International Trade Association (KITA) Shanghai Office, in an interview with China News Network.
In a time of overlapping global crises in climate crises and tariffs, China is evolving from a participant to an active contributor that helps shape the regional agenda, Park noted.
Through initiatives such as the Digital Silk Road, China has promoted open collaboration and dialogue among member economies, offering new opportunities for developing countries.
Looking ahead, China is set to host the APEC 2026, a moment Park views with optimism: “In China, the next host, I hope to see APEC's role as a 'balancer and coordinator' fully amplified.” (Lin Zhuowei, Shao Zilu)
