China discovers its first 100-mln-ton deep-water deep-play oilfield

The China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) announced on Friday that the company has made a major oilfield discovery of Kaiping South in the deep-water deep-play of the South China Sea, which adds over a hundred million tons of oil equivalent proved in-place volume. 

The Kaiping South Oilfield is located in the eastern South China Sea, with an average water depth of approximately 500 meters. The deepest well depth is 4,831 meters, and the oil property is light crude. A total of 100.6 meters oil and gas pay zones has been discovered. The well was tested to produce an average of over 1,000 tons of oil equivalent per day. 

Through continued exploration, the proved in-place volume of Kaiping South Oilfield has reached 102 million tons of oil equivalent.
