(ECNS) -- Hong Jingying, a native of Lishui, Zhejiang Province, devoted herself to bean paintings after quitting her job in 2015.

Bean painting, or bean anaglyphs, originated from the folk custom of painting with grains.

The paintings are based on the beans that have been treated for preservation, making full use of their shells, shapes, beanstalks, patterns, colors and so on.

Hong is able to shape a figure with two or three beans, to tell a story with a group of figures as well as being able to present the history and conditions of her hometown.

Hong combined local landscapes with folkways in her bean paintings, among which are many farming stories.
