Critically endangered Siberian crane appears in South China

(ECNS)--Eleven Siberian cranes have been spotted in a town of Shixing County in Guangdong Province.

Siberian crane are under first-class protection in China.

A small population of around 4,000 exist globally.

It shares a similar status to the giant panda among birds.

Known as a "living fossil," the Siberian crane is listed as critically endangered on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

It is a typical wetland waterbird that prefer vast lakes or fords.
