(ECNS) -- Aditi Deodhar, a junior student at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, led a team to invent edible tableware.

It will help solve urgent plastic pollution in Hong Kong caused by single-use tableware.

This kind of edible tableware is made of wheat flour. One just needs to shape the kneaded dough into chopsticks and spoons first, then bake them in the oven for an hour and cool them before use.

However, the team failed to find a manufacturer willing to customize the molds due to limited demand.

Aditi's team invited volunteers to try the final products, proving this kind of tableware could keep its shape for at least half an hour.

This project won them a prize of 25,000 HKD in the school's entrepreneurial competition a few days ago.

Aditi said they would develop richer flavors to make the tableware "more delicious".

This project is currently in the research and development stage. The team will improve the shape and firmness of their edible tableware by adjusting the production formula and baking method before putting it on the market.
