(ECNS) -- The world's first prototype high-temperature superconducting (HTS) maglev was unveiled in Chengdu, Sichuan Province on Wednesday.

The prototype maglev, with a design speed of 620km/h, was jointly developed by Southwest Jiaotong University, China Railway Group Limited and CRRC Corporation Limited.

Its 165-meter trial line was also launched on the same day.

Compared to other maglev technologies, HTS tech is more suitable for the futuristic concept of superfast transportation in vacuum tubes, where trains could hit a speed of over 1,000 km/h.

An integrated transportation system faster than existing land and air equivalents will be developed as scheduled combined with the vacuum tube technology.
