Explore endangered black crested gibbon reserve in S China

(ECNS)--This is Bangliang National Nature Reserve in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, where the dense forests are home to eastern black crested gibbons.
　　　　
The species, with only 150 surviving around the globe, is listed as critically endangered on the IUCN Red List.

Gibbons are forest dwellers, swinging between trees with their long arms, barely touching the ground, which demands the maintained protection of the natural habitat, according to Yang Jiang, the reserve director.

The precious creature was believed extinct in China before 2006 when the species was re-discovered by biologists on a bird research trip.

With its habitat spanning the border between China and Vietnam, the two countries cooperate to regularly patrol the forest area.

Altogether five groups of 21 gibbons are now residing inside the reserve.
