Smartpass designed to improve safety for passers-by

(ECNS)-- A "smartpass", an intelligent pedestrian crossing system was put into use in Chengdu, Sichuan Province.

It's designed to improve safety for both drivers and pedestrians during the nighttime.

When pedestrians stepping into the "zebra" crossing, stakes on both sides emit 28 red lights, shining on people's calves to remind drivers.

This "smartpass" balances the traffic efficiency and safety.
