(ECNS) - China's telecommunications sector deployed 68,000 emergency personnel to respond to disruptions caused by Typhoons Maysak and Bavi, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said on Sunday.

The ministry said it had coordinated communications regulators in Shanghai City, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian provinces and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to safeguard telecommunications services and support flood-control and disaster-relief operations.

Authorities closely monitored weather conditions and network operations, while mobilizing national emergency communications teams and equipment. China also activated cross-network 5G roaming services to help maintain connectivity in affected areas.

As of Sunday noon, the sector had dispatched 24,000 emergency communications vehicle deployments, 31,000 generator deployments, 130 satellite phones and 27 drone missions.

Telecom operators also sent 330 million warning text messages and restored service to about 11,000 damaged base stations.

The measures were aimed at maintaining communications for emergency responders and residents in disaster-hit regions.
