Aggressive monkeys escape from overturned truck in Mississippi

(ECNS) -- A truck hauling monkeys overturned around the 117 mile marker North of Heidelberg in Mississippi on Wednesday, causing several monkeys to escape, according to the Jasper County Sheriff's Department on its facebook account.
The truck was carrying Rehsus monkeys from Tulane University. The monkeys are approximately 40lbs and are aggressive to humans. They require personal protective equipment to handle, carrying hepatitis C, herpes, and COVID.

Three monkeys are still on the loose after the officials from Tulane were able to get inside the truck and get a correct count.
Officials from Tulane arrived on Wednesday evening. Mississippi Wildlife and Fisheries is also on site with local law enforcement.
