China's railway passenger transportation kept strong growth during operation in the first quarter of this year, handling more than 1 billion passenger trips across the country, the national railway operator China State Railway Groups said on Tuesday.

According to the group, 1.01 billion passenger trips were made on China's railway network from January to March, a daily average of 11.15 million trips, a year-on-year increase of 28.5 percent.

The transportation remained orderly and safe in operation in the first quarter, and some indicators broke records, the company said.

For example, during this year's 40-day Spring Festival travel rush, which ended on March 5, a record of 480 million passenger trips were made.

The railway traffic has remained a steady operation when it enters the second quarter of this year, the company said.
