5 killed, 13 injured in Guangzhou car crash

(ECNS) -- A car accelerated and hit pedestrians at the junction of Tianhe Road and Tiyudong Road in South China's Guangzhou city at around 17:25 on Wednesday.

Five pedestrians were killed, and 13 injured in the accident.

The driver, a 22-year-old man, has been controlled by police for further investigation, according to local authorities.

A delivery worker surnamed Liu who witnessed the accident said he saw a black BMW car rush to the junction near the Zhengjia Plaza.

Liu said the driver didn't stop and escaped after hitting pedestrians.

A video posted by a netizen on Chinese social media Weibo shows the driver dropped cash out of the vehicle many times after the crash, but his motive was unclear yet.
