(ECNS) -- China's blue-collar workers aged over 40 account for nearly half of the total blue collar population, according to a report published by China New Forms of Employment Research Center on Tuesday.

As an important part of China's employment market, the term blue collar refers to workers in non-office settings in the secondary and tertiary industries.

In 2021, the number of blue-collar workers in China reached more than 400 million, accounting for 69.4 percent of the employees in the secondary and tertiary industries, and 53 percent of the 747 million total employment population in China.

The research data also shows that the blue-collar workers are mainly engaged in the secondary industry. The proportion of blue-collar workers over 40 years old accounts for nearly 50 percent, and most blue-collar workers earn 5,000 yuan (about $717.13) to 8,000 yuan per month on average.
