Xinjiang expands investment in energy sector

Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China has been expanding investment in the energy sector in a bid to reinforce its status as a key energy base of the country.

According to the regional development and reform commission, Xinjiang aims to fully release its advanced and high-quality coal production capacity to realize over 400 million tonnes of coal output in 2025.

As an important clean energy base in China, Xinjiang has set a target of adding 15 million kw of new energy generation capacity within the year. In the meantime, Xinjiang has made great efforts to strengthen the main power grid.

Xinjiang has stepped up the exploration and development of oil and gas in the Tarim, Junggar, and Turpan-Hami basins, as well as shale oil resources in Jimsar County.

In 2021, Xinjiang's energy output increased substantially, with 122.3 billion kWh of electricity and 43.87 million tonnes of coal being delivered out of the autonomous region.
