The United States expects to begin COVID-19 vaccinations in early December, the AFP reports quoting Moncef Slaoui, the head of the government vaccine efforts.

The development comes says after Pfizer Inc said that final results from the late-stage trial of its COVID-19 vaccine show it was 95 percent effective.

Pfizer and German partner BioNTech are the first drug makers to release successful data from a large-scale clinical trial of a vaccine, with their analysis showing a much better performance than most experts had hoped for from COVID-19 vaccines.

Also earlier this month, U.S. biotechnology company Moderna released preliminary data, saying its COVID-19 vaccine appears to be 94.5 percent effective.

The U.S. is the hardest-hit country globally by the pandemic, having reported more than 12.09 million infections and over 255,000 deaths.
