(ECNS) -- A personally operated foreign-currency exchange machine was put into operation in Shanghai on Tuesday.

The machine is located at Metro City in Xujiahui, one of Shanghai's best-known commercial and shopping centers.

Users place orders on their mobile phones, select the outlet, go through the authentication process on the machine, and then collect their money. The whole process can be done in no more than two minutes.

Currently it offers exchange for U.S. dollars, Japanese yen, Korean won, Thai baht, Euros, Hong Kong dollars, Malaysian ringgit and British pounds.

All the banknotes have been disinfected by ultraviolet and kept under quarantine for seven days before they are put into the machine.

The device can reduce contact between people and help contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.
