(ECNS) -- China's National Immigration Administration has developed an identity verification platform for entry and exit at its national borders, also to be used by public service departments and other industries.

The administration tries to apply Internet technology to improve governmental services and deepen reforms. The documents verified by the administration free of charge can act as ID for domestic residents, a useful feature, as ID is often required to get things done in China.

The move is expected to benefit overseas Chinese and residents of Hong Kong and Macao, helping them engage in business, as well as conduct science and technology innovations, more easily in the mainland.

Once the verification platform is up and running this month, overseas personnel will be able to handle 35 public services in the mainland, including transportation, finance, education, telecommunications, medical care and accommodation with their entry and exit documents.
