The "Tokyo 2020 NIPPON Festival," the official cultural event of the Tokyo 2020 Games, which was scheduled to be held from April to September this year, has been cancelled due to the postponement of the 2020 Olympic Games, Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee said on Monday.

The four planned events range from theatrical performances to exhibitions, including three in Tokyo, and another four-part campaign to rebuild Japan's devastated areas will take place in four prefectures affected by the 2011 Japan Earthquake.

However, the organizers are still considering whether these events will be held again in 2021. "Rearrangement of the Festival in 2021 is currently under consideration, as is the content and scheduling, and details will be announced as soon as these are decided. The organizers of the individual co-hosted events will decide if and when to reschedule these," the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee said in a statement.

The NIPPON Festival is aimed at boosting excitement and anticipation toward the Games, while promoting Japan's unique culture widely across Japan and worldwide. It was meant to provide different opportunities for as many people as possible to take part in the Tokyo 2020 Games.

The postponed Tokyo Olympic Games will be held on July 23 to August 8, 2021.
