Macao launches barrier-free navigation service ahead of national para games

(ECNS) — A barrier-free navigation service app was launched in Macao on Wednesday, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, as the region prepares to co-host the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympics.

The service, jointly released by Macao's Social Welfare Bureau and a mainland enterprise, includes information on more than 300 barrier-free facilities across venues for the upcoming games as well as airports, ferry terminals, land border checkpoints, transport stations and hotels.

Users can search for accessible entrances, barrier-free restrooms and parking spaces at these locations. For public transport, the system prioritizes accessible and more convenient bus and light-rail routes. For walking navigation, the app suggests gentle routes and avoiding footbridges and underpasses.

The 12th National Paralympic Games and the 9th Special Olympics of China will be held from Dec. 8 to 15, 2025, in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao.
