HKSAR gov't's support fund for Wang Fuk Court reaches 300 mln U.S. dollars
(ECNS) -- The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government announced that as of Tuesday noon, public donations to the “Support Fund for Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po” had reached HK$2 billion (about $260 million). Together with the HK$300 million in seed funding provided by the government, the fund now totals approximately HK$2.3 billion.
The fund will be used to help affected residents rebuild their homes, providing long-term and ongoing support.
HKSAR government earlier announced that the fund would offer HK$200,000 as condolence
payments and HK$50,000 as funeral subsidies to the families of the deceased. As of Tuesday, 21 cases had been processed.
The government also announced that each affected household would receive a HK$50,000 living allowance. 104 cases have been processed so far, with payments underway.
To address urgent needs, the government has also been providing HK$10,000 in emergency relief to each affected household since the night of Nov. 27. As of 4 p.m. Tuesday, more than 1,930 households had registered, with the payment already disbursed to 1,916 households.
Moreover, local social welfare department has deployed social workers and clinical psychologists to accompany families at memorials and provide emotional support.
