Chinese citizen rescued in Cambodia: embassy
(ECNS) -- A Chinese national reported missing in Cambodia has been rescued successfully, according to the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia on Wednesday.
In a statement posted online, the embassy confirmed that Chinese national Li Yiheng had arrived at the embassy and that arrangements for his return to China were underway.
It again urged Chinese citizens to strengthen their awareness of fraud prevention and firmly resist job scams that promise high salaries for easy work, which often lead to forced labor or detention.
The case drew widespread attention after Chinese actor Tong Zhuo publicly appealed for help on social media on Tuesday, saying his cousin had gone missing after leaving for a job on Nov. 13 and was suspected to have been trapped in a scam compound overseas.
Li’s mother, who runs the social media account “Single Mother Saving Son in Cambodia,” also verified the situation. In a post, she said her son had lost contact after leaving for work and the family had been unable to verify his safety or whereabouts.
“All I want is for my son to come home alive and safe,” she wrote.
