15th National Games boosts tourism in Greater Bay Area
(ECNS) -- The upcoming 15th National Games of China, to open Sunday in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao special administrative regions, has fueled a tourism surge in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Travel platform data shows that combined searches for hotels, flights, train tickets, and attractions related to the National Games soared over the past week, signaling a strong uptick in cultural and tourism activities across the region.
From Nov. 8 to 21, during the competition period, flight searches to Guangzhou and Shenzhen from cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Wuhan in central China's Hubei increased significantly. Bookings for flights between Chinese mainland cities and Hong Kong and Macao also grew steadily, with major demand originating from Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou in east China's Zhejiang, Nanjing and Wuxi in east China's Jiangsu Province.
Hotel bookings have risen notably as well. As of Monday, reservations in host cities including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Foshan, and Zhaoqing in Guangdong Province from Nov. 8 to 21 were substantially higher than the same period last year.
Other cities in Guangdong such as Huizhou and Qingyuan saw over 100% year-on-year growth in hotel reservations, while Shenzhen, Foshan, and Jiangmen recorded increases of more than 60%. The two weekends during the Games are expected to draw peak visitor numbers.
