China to launch world's first G8.6 printed OLED line
(ECNS) -- TCL China Star Optoelectronics Technology (TCL CSOT) broke ground Tuesday on its T8 project, which the company says will be the world's first mass-production line for G8.6-generation printed OLEDs.
CEO of TCL CSOT Zhao Jun said that the T8 project marks the first time a Chinese display enterprise has achieved breakthrough technology with potential market dominance in the high-generation AMOLED (active-matrix organic light-emitting diode) field. He added that the project will combine advances in industrial robotics, AI models, new materials, and renewable energy to promote high-quality development.
The project is designed with a monthly production capacity of about 22,500 glass substrates (2290mm × 2620mm). Printed OLED products will be primarily used in monitors, laptops, and tablets, and are expected to expand into more high-value-added display applications in the future, according to the head of TCL CSOT's Printed OLED Center Cao Weiran.
Funded by TCL CSOT, the Guangzhou Municipal Government, and the Administrative Committee of the Guangzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone, the T8 initiative has a total investment of about 29.5 billion yuan (approximately $4 billion).
