(ECNS) -- China Mobile launched its first 5G-A (5G Advanced) station on Mount Qomolangma, providing stronger support for tourism, mountaineering, scientific research and environment protection in the area, according to the company in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on Wednesday.

The world's highest-altitude 5G station was launched in April 2020, taking 5G connectivity to a new height.

The 5G-A network can meet diversified demands in the scenic area, such as high-definition cloud live streaming, naked eye 3D technology, and XR (virtual reality VR, extended reality AR and mixed reality MR) meta-universe hyperspace. Tourists can make live video calls and watch high-definition videos.

The project will help carry out environment monitoring, real-time surveillance, and other activities on the world's highest mountain through RedCap technology in the Qomolangma National Nature Reserve in Xizang.
