(ECNS) -- The world’s first LNG dual-fuel Suezmax oil tanker built by China Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) was delivered in southern China’s Guangzhou on Tuesday.

The 158,000-dwt vessel is the largest LNG dual-fuel green tanker in south China.

The vessel is about 274 meters long, 48 meters wide, and 23.7 meters deep. It meets the Tier III emission standards promulgated by the International Maritime Organization for both fuel and LNG-powered modes.

LNG represents liquefied natural gas with methane as the main component, whose weight is only about 45 percent of the same volume of water. When the vessel is powered by LNG, it reduces carbon dioxide emissions, nitrogen oxide emissions, particulate matter and sulfur oxide emissions by about 20 percent, 85 percent, and 99 percent, respectively.

Singapore's Eastern Pacific Shipping placed the order at GSI in December 2019 for two LNG-powered carriers. The delivery marks that GSI has achieved full coverage in the field of tanker construction.
