Chengdu Natural History Museum prepares to go public

(ECNS) -- The Chengdu Natural History Museum has completed all procedures to host exhibitions soon, according to the Chengdu Municipal Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau.

With a total construction area of 50,520 square meters, the museum has five floors with one underground and four above ground, while it consists of six single units connected by pedestrian walkways and overpass corridors.

The design of the museum takes cues from the natural geology of Sichuan, including the lofty mountains and meandering rivers special to the region.

The museum involves six exhibition halls of different themes including geological environment, mineral resources, and dinosaur fossils, covering a total area of 17,005 square meters.

The geological environment hall spans about 962 square meters, with a height of seven meters.

It clearly explains the structure and inner circles of Earth and the geological structure and ecosystem of Sichuan by using three-dimensional models, colorful illustrations and sand tables.

The mineral resource exhibition hall shows the types and characteristics of minerals, precious jade and other natural resources in five sections.

The dinosaur-themed hall on the second-floor exhibits fossils from all over the world including those unearthed in Sichuan Basin, and tries to restore the image of dinosaurs for visitors through skeleton presentation, partial bones, models, simulated scenes and interactions.

The museum is going to fill in the blanks of comprehensive natural museums in southwest China, and provide a public cultural space for the public, an official stated.
