(ECNS) -- China's self-developed ski helmet, which uses aerospace technology, has made its debut in Dalian, Liaoning Province, as the 2022 Winter Games draw near.

It was developed by a research team from the Dalian University of Technology and will protect skiers on the Chinese national team during the games.

This helmet, which uses the shell manufacturing technology of the Long March-5 carrier rocket, weighs only about 700 grams.

The use of the thin-walled structural design of aerospace technology has greatly improved the anti-deformation capability, thus better protecting Chinese athletes, said team leader Hao Peng, a professor at the Dalian University of Technology.

The team has collected head-size data of Chinese athletes and customized helmets to make long-time use more comfortable.

What's more, it uses a new material made of carbon fiber, glass fiber and elastomer, significantly improving impact resistance and energy absorption efficiency.

The helmet has passed the test of European ski helmet safety standards and has been used to protect the freestyle skiing aerials national team of China.
