(ECNS) -- Smart technologies are expected to help improve the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics experience, as a 50-day countdown to its opening was marked on Thursday.

At an event held in Yanqing District in northwestern Beijing, cutting-edge technologies that will better serve the Winter Olympics and beyond were demonstrated, including the Wozhihu Platform—for pandemic prevention and control—and digital RMB, as well as the Fiber to the Room networking technology.

By taking advantage of IoT product technology, China Unicom, a major telecom operator in China, has developed a module of digital RMB service that embeds a SIM card into an IoT device, such as shared bicycles, smart charging piles and self-service coffee machines, according to Wang Chuanbao, deputy general manager of China Unicom Beijing.

As a major company focused on developing 5G technology, Huawei has been cooperating with China Unicom to balance 5G speed in central business areas and in rural areas, guaranteeing the smooth functioning of 5G network not only during the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, but in people’s daily lives, said Chen Danqing, director of Huawei China Carrier Wireless Network’s Marketing Department.

With the adoption of AR technology, audiences who watch the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics live next February at home can choose to watch the games from angles they prefer on their phones, added Chen.

In addition, metaverse, a sensational element, is also being reflected in Huawei's 5G technology. With the newly developed six-angle technology, audiences can even choose to watch the games from the view of a player on the court to have an immersive experience.

Apart from applications to the upcoming Winter Olympics and Paralympics, 5G technology has also been applied to daily existence in villages, providing a better life for residents.

Currently, 19 villages in Yanqing District have been registered as “Digital Villages,” where villagers have found innovative ways to improve their lives by virtue of network services. The quality of agricultural products can be traced through big data analysis, and live streaming has brought farmers economic benefits worth more than 200,000 yuan (around $31,405).

In addition, high-resolution IPTV signal has been available in more than 200 households in rural areas of Fangshan, another district in southwestern Beijing. Residents there can watch high-definition programs on TV.
