China issues special stamps on scientific and technological innovation
(ECNS) -- China Post issued a set of special stamps themed on scientific and technological innovation on Wednesday, according to a statement of the Bureau of Science Communication, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The set contains five special stamps, four of which depict significant achievements that the Chinese Academy of Science led or participated in, including "Chang'e-5", "Fendouzhe (Striver) Deep-Sea Manned Submersible", "Identification of Chemical that Makes Locusts Swarm", and "Decoding Human History with Ancient DNA". The remaining one depicts "Hualong One", a domestically-designed third-generation nuclear reactor.
"Chang'e-5" stamp, worth 1.2 yuan ($0.18), shows the Chinese-developed lunar probe conducting unmanned sampling on the lunar surface.
"Fendouzhe Deep-Sea Manned Submersible" stamp, worth 1.2 yuan ($0.18), features China's new deep-sea manned submersible that has set a new Chinese diving record of 10,909 meters on Nov. 10, 2020 in the Challenger Deep, a chasm located at the bottom of the Mariana Trench in the western Pacific Ocean.
"Identification of Chemical that Makes Locusts Swarm" stamp, worth 1.2 yuan ($0.18), presents both the creatures and the chemical formula, 4-Vinylanisole, that acts as an aggregation pheromone in locusts.
"Decoding Human History with Ancient DNA" stamp, worth 1.5 yuan ($0.23), renders the hereditary and evolutionary history of Chinese prehistoric people via DNA chains and ancient strata.
"Hualong One" stamp, worth 1.5 yuan ($0.23), shows the 3rd-generation nuclear power technology that China has independent intellectual property rights.
The first two sets of "Scientific & Technological Innovation" stamps were issued in 2017 and 2019, respectively.
