'Hu' selected as BRI Chinese character of the year 2021

(ECNS) -- The Chinese character Hu, which means mutual, was chosen as the "Belt and Road Initiative Chinese character of the year" 2021, in Qufu City, east China's Shandong Province, on Saturday.

"Hu" indicates connecting and coordinating with each other. The event organizer said the BRI will enhance connectivity, learning and mutual benefit between countries and regions along the Belt and Road, adding that against the background of the COVID-19 pandemic, people all over the world need to support and cooperate with each other.

The event was promoted in various forms, including solo, chorus, sitcom, animation, video, calligraphy, tea ceremony and martial arts performance.

The annual Chinese character Belt and Road Initiative has been held for five years. It announces one Chinese character each year to promote people's understanding of the meaning of the Belt and Road Initiative.
