(ECNS) -- China’s three telecom operators now have 86,000 5G stations operational to support development of the next-generation ultrafast mobile Internet, Chen Zhaoxiong, vice minister of Industry and Information Technology, said at the sixth World Internet Conference on Monday.

Chen said the number of 5G stations of China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom will rise to 130,000 by the end of the year with wide, connected 5G access instead of separated zones available in cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hangzhou.

Chen added China will promote the application of the industrial Internet in the real economy, especially in the manufacturing sector. Efforts will be made to encourage SMEs to use the technology for digital transformation.

With the theme "Intelligent Interconnection for Openness and Cooperation -- Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace," the three-day conference held in river town Wuzhen brings together more than 1,500 participants from over 80 countries and regions.
